How to Play Cursed Survivors: Controls, Tips and Beginner Guide
This guide covers everything a new player needs for the Cursed Survivors browser game: the goal of each run, the controls on desktop and mobile, the Domain ability, the shop, achievements and practical tips to survive longer.
The goal of every run
Cursed Survivors is a survival roguelike. Each run starts with the character you chose, and your task is simple: stay alive until the timer reaches 10:00. Enemies arrive in waves, bosses appear along the way, and the pressure keeps growing. If your health runs out before the timer ends, the run is over, but the coins and progress you earned are kept for the next attempt.
Controls
| Action | Desktop | Mobile / tablet |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W A S D or arrow keys | Drag your finger on the screen |
| Expand your Domain | Space | Domain button on screen |
| Pause | Esc | Pause button (II) on screen |
| Choose a level-up upgrade | Click it, or press 1, 2 or 3 | Tap it |
Sound can only start after your first click or key press, because browsers block audio until you interact with the page. If you hear nothing at first, click inside the game once. Volume for effects and music can be changed in Options.
Levelling up and upgrades
Defeating enemies earns experience. Each time you level up, the game pauses and offers you a choice of upgrades. Skills you already own become stronger, and when conditions are met they can evolve into far more powerful versions. Think about synergy: a build that combines area damage, protection and movement is usually more stable than spreading your picks across unrelated skills.
The Domain (Space key)
Every character has a personal Domain, a signature special ability that you trigger with the Space key. The seven characters each have a different one: Bottomless Abyss, Scarlet Storm, Wandering Shadow Garden, Nail Funeral, Crimson Shrine, Realm of the Dead and Pumpkin Harvest. Upgrades such as Expanded Domain and Lethal Domain improve it. It must be fully charged before you can use it, so do not waste it on a nearly empty screen: save it for the moment you are surrounded or facing a boss.
Coins, the shop and permanent upgrades
Coins collected during a run are saved, and you can spend them in the Shop on permanent upgrades such as Vigor, Armor, Greed, Wisdom, Magnet, Recovery and Revive. These carry over to every future run, so even a short failed attempt makes the next one easier.
Achievements and hidden characters
The Achievements screen tracks your counters and partial progress. Some achievements unlock secret characters: Death is a hidden playable character, and the Headless Horseman is tied to the Halloween pumpkin event and an achievement that requires collecting 1,200 pumpkins. Check the achievements list regularly to see what you are closest to completing.
Difficulty
You can start a run on Easy, Normal or Hard, or choose Random and let the game decide. If you are learning the controls, begin on Easy; once you can regularly reach the later minutes, move up to Normal and Hard.
10 beginner tips to survive longer
- Never stop moving. Standing still is the fastest way to get surrounded.
- Move in wide circles instead of straight lines, so that enemies chase you in a trail rather than cutting you off.
- Stay near open space. Corners and edges of the arena are dangerous.
- Pick a theme for your build and stick with it: stronger skills beat many weak ones.
- Take defensive upgrades early. Health and protection matter more as the minutes pass.
- Save the Domain for crowds and boss fights.
- Collect pickups when it is safe, not when a large group is next to you.
- Spend your coins in the shop after every run; permanent upgrades add up quickly.
- Try every character. Their Domains change how you want to position yourself.
- Use pause (Esc) to think about your next upgrade without pressure.
Troubleshooting
There is no sound
Click or press a key inside the game once, then check the volume sliders in Options and make sure your tab is not muted.
My progress disappeared
Progress is stored in your browser on your device. Clearing site data, using private or incognito mode, or switching browsers or devices means you will not see your earlier saves.
The game feels slow
Close other heavy tabs, update your browser and try a different one such as Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Playing in fullscreen on a desktop usually gives the smoothest result.
